Map Art in Home Decor

Geography seems to have moved from high school to our living room walls. Well, more specifically, maps. While typographical prints are a huge rage at the moment, I have come across some great examples of map art being used to decorate living spaces. And I absolutely love it. I hinted at my map-love in this post on Bianca Green (don’t you just love that world map illustration!).

You can make your map art as global or as local as you wish. Vintage or modern – your choice. And in certain instances, it makes for a fabulous DIY idea. The scope is really as vast your imagination (to be fair, that is true for anything in your life). Have a look at these examples and decide for yourself:

I love this bright world map poster by artPause on Etsy.

Think local. Chicago Heart Map by LuciusArt on Etsy. I think this could also work as a great DIY idea.

A perfect combination – a typographical world map wall sticker at Not On The High Street. You can get more typographical maps at TypoMaps.

You can use vintage wall map murals as well.

It makes for big wall decor DIY idea as demonstrated by Selina in Remodelaholic.

Another large world map DIY idea by Save It 4 A Rainy Day.

Don’t want to go the full nine yards? You can take a leaf out of Ambrosia Girl‘s page (well, blog) and create large initial map art.

Don’t just stop at walls. You can use maps on glass doors

shower curtains

…and even cushions (My Bearded Pigeon on Etsy).

The possibilities are really quite endless.

So are you bringing in geography to your homes?
